Industrial Forestry and the Water You Drink
For over thirty years, Chuck Willer has defended public forests and watersheds in Oregon. He has been at the cutting edge of insights into industrial forest management and the impact of financial forces on forested landscapes. Chuck’s work for the past ten years has focused on the drivers of the extinction and climate crises – namely, the capitalist dynamic with its mandate for endless growth and accumulation. Chuck brings an understanding of non-mainstream economics to bear on the forces transforming society and the natural world. In his discussion for the Forest Protection Forum, Chuck will examine the transformation of the U.S. economy over the past three decades and its impact on corporate forest ownership and management. He will link Wall Street finance to landscape forest conditions and explain how such conditions harm watersheds and aquatic life. Given the range of his interests and learning, Chuck Willer can be described as a true polymath.
