Planetary Health Diet

As proud as we are of the ways our Club has acted to mitigate emissions from the burning of coal, gas, and oil,  Agricultural emissions also require action. Our livestock play an oversize part in our greenhouse gas emissions.  Agriculture is responsible for about a third of our emissions https://www.nature.com/articles/s43016-021-00225-9 and livestock are responsible for over two-thirds of that.  https://www.fao.org/3/cb3808en/cb3808en.pdf

We will not be able to deal with the current global heating unless we move to a diet with less meat and dairy. The Planetary Health Diet remains the major attempt to describe a healthy diet flexible enough to adapt to cultural differences, sustainable in a wide range of habitats, and consistent with responsible climate action. It was designed to meet the needs of the climate as well as to provide a sustainable, healthy food supply world-wide. https://eatforum.org/eat-lancet-commission/eat-lancet-commission-summary-report/

For our health and the health of the planet, we should follow a plant-based diet which may include small servings of meat and dairy foods. https://www.un.org/en/climatechange/science/climate-issues/food  Few actions an individual can take will have a greater impact on the climate.
