Sierra Club to Rep. Murphy: Lead on Climate by Backing Reconciliation
Sierra Club Urges Rep. Murphy to Champion Immediate Passage of Historic Climate Legislation
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressional Democrats are in the process of delivering the most important climate action legislation in the history of our country at a moment when the stakes for action could not be higher.
The Build Back Better Act centers climate action at its core by advancing major clean energy tax incentives, a Clean Electricity Performance Program (CEPP), a fee on methane polluters, funding for electric vehicles, environmental justice block grants, and a Civilian Climate Corps.
Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy (FL-7) of central Florida has yet to strongly endorse immediate passage of the full reconciliation package that they must be passed with.
In Response, Sierra Club Florida Chapter Director Emily Gorman and Chapter Chair Steve Wonderly Released the Following Joint Statement:
"Rep. Stephanie Murphy has often discussed her support for climate action, which is all the more reason that the Sierra Club now urges her to make clear her support for immediate passage of the entirety of this historic climate legislation in Congress. Unity is important because we are on the cusp of, for the first time ever, passing major climate-centered legislation that is essential for tackling this crisis at the speed and scale necessary.
"Central Florida cannot afford to wait and see just how severe the climate crisis will be — we must immediately move on the scale and speed necessary. That is why it is so important for Rep. Murphy to make clear that she supports urgent passage of the bold investments in the Build Back Better Act as soon as possible."
