This Food, Composting, and Soil Health Committee collaborates with city agencies, environmental organizations, advisory boards, and community gardens to ensure that our food and food waste systems are holistic, and best serve the needs of New York City.

ESG and Sustainable Finance Committee
The ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) and Sustainable Finance Committee works to promote sustainable development by supporting a net-zero economy and green finance. The committee works to promote education, understanding, and action on creating a nuanced, sustainable financial system.

Transportation Committee
The Transportation Committee works to accelerate New York City’s reduction of transportation-related emissions.

Political Committee
The Political Committee interviews candidates running for public office, endorsing those it believes will be strong environmental leaders. The Committee then identifies priority races for the purpose of supporting endorsed candidates with people powered campaign and with the help of the Atlantic Chapter (NY State Chapter).

Zero Waste Committee
The Zero Waste Committee considers the intersection of consumption, environmental and social justice, and human and environmental health as they relate to waste from consumer products (especially plastics). They seek to integrate reusable and low-waste alternatives into the daily lives of New Yorkers in an accessible and equitable manner.

Urban Sustainability Committee
The Urban Sustainability Committee works at the intersection of community needs, policy, and enjoying nature. Through cultivating collaborations with community groups and other environmental organizations, the Urban Sustainability Committee searches for how to best deploy Sierra Club resources in the unique case of New York City.
