This issue will be mailed to those who are getting mail, but you can read it here as a pdf or as a web blog. This issue includes a lot of good information, including on the Arizona Corporation Commission, our Environmental Report Card on the Arizona Legislature, and more.    Read the Fall 2024 Canyon Echo   Volunteer Meet & Greet on First Friday in Phoenix     Volunteer Meet & Greet on First Friday  First Friday | OCT 4th 2024 6pm - 7:30 FREE PARKING at our downtown office. 514 W Roosevelt St. Easy access to light rail (use the Roosevelt stop) and public transit from there. You'll have opportunities to connect with fellow volunteers, enjoy light refreshments, watch a couple of short films, and learn about Sierra Club's programs. We'll also showcase the wide variety of ways you can get involved.  Afterwards folks are encouraged to head out as groups and wander First Friday on Roosevelt Row (here's a helpful guide) looking at all the vendors and stopping at the art galleries and Free Entry to participating Museums.  Bring a friend or two, just be sure they RSVP so we can have enough food  and any materials for everyone! Lastly, consider joining our WhatsApp Group for quick updates on upcoming volunteer events and opportunities to make a real difference in protecting the environment!  Hope to see you Friday!     RSVP HERE Speak up Against Polluting Gas Plants!   Help fight two large gas plant projects and let the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) know that we, Arizonans, want more clean energy, not more polluting gas plants!  You can help in two ways! 1) Sign both of our petitions opposing these gas plants. Sign the petition against the Bella gas plant here. Sign the petition against the Redhawk gas plant expansion here. 2) You can sign up to comment at the public meeting on Tuesday, Oct 8th. It starts at 9:00 AM, but in order to speak, you must sign up prior to 9:00 AM. You can do this on line or at the Commission office. Check out the Bella Toolkit here.  Check out our Redhawk Toolkit here.     Threats to the Waters of Grand Canyon Science Panel    Join us and our coalition partners at our Science Panel on Threats to the Waters of the Grand Canyon, Thursday, October 10th from 6:30 to 7:30 at the Aspen Room in Flagstaff.     RSVP HERE   Mark Your Calendar for the Volunteer, Member, and Partner Recognition Picnic​​​    Please join the Grand Canyon (AZ) Chapter for our annual picnic to recognize our supportive members, awesome volunteers, and outstanding partners. We will provide food and drinks, so please RSVP so we have a solid count. We will celebrate some wins, give out the awards, and have plenty of time to get to know new friends and connect with old friends. There may be an optional hike following the picnic. RSVP so we can plan to have enough food!     RSVP for Picnic   Defend Our Climate for Green Jobs, Cleaner Air, and Less Pollution!   We have helped to advance important climate actions over the last couple of years including with the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA)--the largest climate investment in U.S. history. Thanks to the IRA and stronger standards being proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy for methane, soot, carbon emissions from power plants, and efficiency standards, we have made significant progress on climate and, importantly, to protect our health. Unfortunately, this progress is under attack.
