Groups Call on Senator Sinema to Take Bold Climate Action!
(Arizona) - On Thursday, Sierra Club - Grand Canyon Chapter, Moms Clean Air Force, Mi Familia Vota, Arizona Interfaith Power and Light, Defend Our Future, and other groups demonstrated in front of Senator Kyrsten Sinema's office to deliver a message to her that Arizona needs Big, Bold, Climate Action in the infrastructure and reconciliation packages to address public transit, electric school buses, and more.
Participants attempted to deliver a letter signed by faith leaders and a card from climate kids asking the senator to show leadership on climate and to work for and support bold climate action. Unfortunately, no one from the senator’s office was available to accept the messages, so they were sent separately.
“Senator Sinema should listen to her constituents and take big, bold climate action now,” said Jennifer Martin, Water Sentinels Program Manager with Sierra Club’s Grand Canyon Chapter. “We need major investments in clean energy in the budget reconciliation process.”
“I joined with more than 3, 400 faith leaders across the United States in delivering a letter to Sen. Sinema and other members of Congress calling for big and bold action on climate,” said Rev. Doug Bland, Executive Director of Arizona Interfaith Power & Light. “We urge Sen. Sinema to use this opportunity to invest in the clean energy future, modernize our electric grid, electrify transportation, ensure clean water for all communities and address the injustices of the past.”
“Here in Arizona, we cannot escape high pollution days, extreme heat, wildfires, and floods in rural and urban areas,” Columba I. Sainz, Arizona Field Consultant with Moms Clean Air Force. “As a mother of three children, I understand that the impacts of climate change are here, and we need to ACT NOW! We need investments in clean transportation, electric buses and vehicles and I am here with my children to make a call to my elected officials to make the transition to modern transportation and support electric vehicle infrastructure for cleaner air, reduced fuel costs, more family-sustaining jobs for our communities.”
