Water is Life!
Environmental Day at the Capitol
Phoenix, AZ – Today, more than 160 people from 26 legislative districts from around the state gathered at the Arizona State Capitol to meet with their state legislators to encourage support for environmental protection. This year’s Environmental Day theme was Water is Life and participants discussed “A Conservation Vision of Arizona’s Water Future” with more than 60 state legislators and also delivered the conservation vision to Governor Ducey’s office.
“It is exciting to see this many people come to the Capitol from all around the state – Yuma, Cascabel, Chino Valley, and more – to speak to their state legislators about how important protecting Arizona’s waters, lands, and wildlife are to them,” said Sandy Bahr, chapter director for Sierra Club’s Grand Canyon (Arizona) Chapter. “We hope legislators get the message that we really need a conservation vision for Arizona’s water future and to better protect our state’s amazing resources.”
In addition to speaking to legislators, participants heard from William deBuys, author of The Last Unicorn: A Search for One of Earth’s Rarest Creatures (2015) and A Great Aridness: Climate Change and the Future of the American Southwest (2011), among other books, regarding “Building a Resilient Arizona.”
