Read a third time and passed, placed on calendar 6/21/2017 by Committee on Rules. SB68 enacted into law (2017 Wisconsin Act 41) on 08/02/2017, and published on 08/03/2017.

The bill would limit the time in which deer feeding would be prohibited following a positive test for certain diseases. Existing law prohibits deer feeding either in a certain county after a positive disease test on a deer has been confirmed in that county (either wild or captive), or in counties partially or fully within 10 miles of the diseased deer. The two main diseases in question are bovine tuberculosis (BT) and chronic wasting disease (CWD). Currently, the law specifies no end date for the prohibition of deer feeding, but the bill would reduce the allowable prohibition time to 36 months, or 3 years, for a county with a positive test, or 24 months, or two years, for a neighboring county. In all likelihood the bill would result in harms to wildlife and the increased spreading of CWD.
