Status Info

Introduced in both the Assembly and the Senate, and referred to the Committee on Energy in Utilities in the Assembly, and the Committee on Natural Resources and Energy in the Senate.  In the Senate, report passage as amended recommneded by Committee on Natural Resources and Energy, and available for scheduling in Senate.  Report passage as amended recommended by Committee on Energy and Utilities in Assembly, and referred to Committee on Rules.

The bill would allow utility companies to provide financial assistance towards the replacement of lead lines for customers. Older lead water pipes present a significant risk of harmful lead exposure, especially with young children whose brains are in a critical stage of development. There is no safe level of lead exposure, and with thousands of lead service lines still active all across Wisconsin, any reasonable proposal to replace these lead lines, such as this one, should be supported on the basis of public health and safety.
