Sierra Club’s Response to the Release of the 2023 Wolf Management Plan

Madison, WI – Today the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) released Wisconsin’s 2023 Wolf Management Plan. The plan made modest changes to the draft plan that was released in November after more than a 2-year review process and thousands of public comments.

In response, Elizabeth Ward, Director of the Sierra Club Wisconsin released the following statement:

“While we’re still reading through the plan in its entirety, we are happy to see that Governor Evers and the DNR remain committed to science, tribal authority, and public opinion.  We commend the DNR for recognizing the ecological and cultural benefits of wolves and remaining committed to the best available science, adaptive wolf management, and low-quota zones.

Sierra Club has been honored to serve on the Wolf Management Plan Committee and looks forward to continuing to engage as the state and Wisconsin Tribes work to manage Wisconsin’s wolf population.”
