Sierra Club Book Club!

The Sierra Club Wisconsin Chapter’s book club is back this year with plenty of great reads. We meet on the first Tuesday evening of every other month and we’d love for you to join us!

March 1, 2022: All We Can Save by Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Katharine K. Wilkinson 

Comprised of writings from women at the forefront of the battle against climate change, this book illustrates the diverse array of female voices in today's environmental movement and the value of their unique perspectives.

May 3, 2022: Grain by Grain: A Quest to Revive Ancient Wheat, Rural Jobs and Healthy Food by Bob Quinn and Liz Carlisle

This book details Quinn's journey toward regenerative organic farming, a practice that proved successful even in Montana's difficult conditions. Quinn's transition allowed him to grow healthier wheat, supply his community with local produce, and even generate his own renewable energy. Quinn and Carlisle illustrate how this story can become the story of American agriculture.

July 12, 2022 (postponed one week to avoid holiday): The Fifth Season by NK Jemisin

The first novel in the Broken Earth trilogy, this book introduces an apocalyptic world and a civilization deeply divided. After an extinction-level event, three individuals belonging to an oppressed class called the 'orogene' must navigate unique hardships while the world around them descends into chaos.

September 6, 2022: Blue Revolution by Cynthia Barnett

In this book, Barnett explores how America's consumption culture has enabled the current water crisis and calls for a nation-wide water ethic. She outlines plans for a blue movement to reconnect Americans to their water, much like the green movement fostered awareness of energy consumption and sustainability.

November 1, 2022: Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaughy 

This book follows twin sisters tasked with reintroducing grey wolves to the Scottish Highlands. As the sisters rehabilitate the wolves, they also begin to heal their own past wounds. However, a death in the community and the blame placed on the wolf pack pushes one sister to drastic lengths to protect the creatures she loves.

January 3, 2023: Diet for a Small Planet - 50th Anniversary Edition by Frances Moore Lappe 

The classic novel that has inspired healthy eating for half a century is back with even more tips, tools and recipes to help us eat well. The new edition also acknowledges diet as an agent of social and environmental change, and more specifically the value of sustainable diet culture in a world facing food insecurity and climate change.
