In Celebration of Volunteers

Sierra Club Wisconsin would not be what it is now without our wonderful volunteers, who devote their time and energy to help preserve the nature and environment of Wisconsin, and fight for an equitable and 100% clean energy future. They have fostered a supportive community for one another and anyone who wants to join the relentless fight against climate change. From filling envelopes for mailings to researching for campaigns to phone banking, volunteers play vital roles in our work. It would not be possible without all of you.

We are so lucky to have the people in our community that we do, so this year, we are celebrating and appreciating our volunteers virtually! From November 12th to 19th, Volunteer Appreciation Week will highlight some of our many volunteers and the incredible work they do. Keep an eye out for posts, videos, and highlights from this unprecedented year!

Part of our ongoing efforts to honor the tireless efforts and dedication of our volunteers  is our weekly Sunday Spotlight, a series of social media posts that spotlight a passionate member of the Wisconsin Chapter, highlighting their work and their stories. With these spotlights, we aim to show the diversity of our volunteers and breadth of volunteer experiences to inspire others to make a difference.

Here's what some of our spotlighted volunteers have to say about their work and why they stay involved with Sierra Club:

“I volunteer for the Sierra Club because I love the supportive community it offers, and the passion the staff and members bring to important environmental issues! I am so thankful for the Sierra Club and that I can be a part of such an amazing organization of thoughtful and inspirational individuals.” – Laura Ann Evelyn Buska, Southeast Gateway Group

“I feel like I am making a difference with the Sierra Club, since I have been concerned about climate change for quite a while. I have finally found hope in my work with the Sierra Club. The staff and volunteers are all so welcoming that it's a pleasure to show up and get to work. The work is what I am passionate about so it's essential to my wellbeing to keep showing up.” – Ronda Conner, Four Lakes Group Executive Committee board

”The support of Sierra Club is a massive source of pride for me. I like knowing that I play a small role in the protection of the environment for everyone regardless of whether they are a supporter or not.” – Huntur Munns, Texting Team

“I volunteer with Sierra Club because I want my kids and grandkids to be able to enjoy the same outdoor experiences that I've been able to enjoy. I think people should be able to eat fish and drink their well water without thinking twice.” – Marty Dillenburg, Water Team

"The Sierra Club gives me a chance to use my writing abilities to make a positive change for my community. I love being able to work with so many other talented and passionate people for a common cause." – Søren Warland, Beyond Coal Team

“I volunteer with the Sierra Club because I care about the climate crisis, and I want to be a part of an organization that champions solutions that don't leave anyone behind. I believe that change must come from within our institutions, so I volunteer in order to hold our legislators accountable to prioritizing Wisconsin's natural environment.” – Kaden Mettel, Legislative PA

The floor is given to a different volunteer every week, so check out our Facebook and Instagram pages for more #SundaySpotlights to get to know them better!

And remember to look out for our Volunteer Appreciation Week posts to learn all about our amazing volunteers, and be sure to join us on Wednesday, November 18th for our Awards Celebration and congratulate our 2020 volunteer award winners!
