Tiny homes, solar power & support for veterans

Last November, Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin (VOW) constructed the James A. Peterson Veterans Village providing 15 tiny homes and a well equipped community center to aid veterans in need. Homeless and at risk veterans can find refuge in this village, allowing them to fully grasp a second chance at life and enjoy the freedom they fought to protect. This is vital because more than 25% of the homeless population in the United States are veterans who were praised for going overseas and then forgotten when they returned home. This village also serves as model for new veteran relief programs to be developed across the country.

To help the village run indepently, VOW is looking to install a 20 kilowatt solar panel. This project will cost an estimated $56,000 and provide the village with over 27,000 kilowatt hours of energy every year. The installation will also promote renewable energy solutions and contribute to the overall sustainability of the city of Racine.

In a statement, VOW said:
“VOW is honored to have such an incredible network of support for this project and we want to thank our generous donors. Thank you Solar for Good for a $10,000 grant, our online fundraisers for the $20,000 donation and our anonymous donor for the $10,000 matching grant. Finally, Veterans Outreach put down a $5,000 deposit, bringing our fundraising total to $45,000. We only need to raise $11,000 more to install solar panels in the village; with the generous donations we have received so far I’m sure we will achieve this goal in no time!”
