For the month of July, the Sierra Club - John Muir is partnering with Elite Sports Clubs to benefit water preservation in Wisconsin. This month, Elite Sports Clubs will donate all enrollment fees to the Sierra Club to support Wisconsin water preservation efforts and other environmental efforts. Wisconsin has over 15,000 inland lakes, and 12,600 rivers and streams. Water is undoubtedly one of Wisconsin’s most valuable assets, and Elite Sports Clubs is helping to raise awareness to our state’s water quality and preservation efforts.

Take a look at these facts about water in Wisconsin:
4.55% of public water supply systems in Wisconsin did not meet health standards in 2014
Bacterial contamination is the most common pollutant in water supplies, followed by the presence of nitrates and the presence of radium. Other pollutants include phosphorus and pharmaceuticals.
Waste and manure from large livestock operations, known as CAFOs (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation), can enter groundwater systems and contaminate drinking water.
Approximately 70% of all water used in Wisconsin is used to generate electricity, and about 30% of all energy in the state is used to move water.
Wisconsin has over 84,000 miles of streams and rivers and more than a million acres of inland lakes.
About ⅔ of Wisconsin residents get their drinking water from groundwater, which can be contaminated in some areas.
Although the use of lead in pipeline construction was banned in 1896, there are still issues with lead contamination in drinking water throughout the state.
