The annual Autumn Assembly is approaching! From October 2 – 4 at the Perlstein Resort in Lake Delton, Sierra Club members and environmentalists from across the state will gather to explore ways their local action can have a statewide impact.
Autumn Assembly is a fun, one-of-a-kind event featuring indoor and outdoor environmental activities for people of all ages. This year’s event is hosted by the Four Lakes Group and offers hands-on activist workshops with three great keynote speakers, breakout sessions, an awards dinner, outings, and three optional tours of the International Crane Foundation, the Aldo Leopold Center, and the geology of the Upper Dells by boat. The presentations and breakout sessions will focus on Sierra Club’s priority issues in Wisconsin including water, mining, clean energy, and clean transportation.
Three keynote speakers will take the podium on Saturday:
- Mike McCabe, author of Blue Jeans in High Places and former executive director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, is one of Wisconsin’s leading whistle blowers and political money trackers. Mike will provide fundamental insights into what's wrong with our political system, the link between the environment and democracy and ways to nurse both back to health.
- James Edward Mills, author of The Adventure Gap, is a freelance journalist and independent media producer who specializes in creating stories about outdoor recreation, environmental conservation, acts of charitable giving and practices of sustainable living. James will share his vision and insights on connecting more people with nature.
- Scott Wittkopf, a political communications consultant, is noted for his skills in creating progressive campaign messages. Scott will discuss how to frame messages about the environment to effectively educate others -- and lead a hands-on workshop allowing participants to work on messaging for specific issues or campaigns
Situated on lovely Lake Blass, the Sierra Club Autumn Assembly also offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Attendees can enjoy canoeing, early morning bird walks, campfires, films and a silent auction filled with eco-friendly treasures.
Register before September 1 and you will also be entered into the Early Bird Contest. Early Birds will receive the best rates and are entered in a drawing for a variety of prizes including the Sierra Club retro logo cap, Sierra Club stainless steel water bottles, a Sierra Club hiker t-shirt, Blue Jeans in High Places signed by author and keynote speaker Mike McCabe, or The Adventure Gap signed by author and keynote speaker James Mills.
