Introduce a Resolution at the Conservation Congress
The Wisconsin Conservation Congress host statewide hearings (one in every county in Wisconsin) that give individuals an opportunity to provide input in rule change proposals and advisory questions relating to fish, wildlife, and other natural resource management in Wisconsin. You can learn more about the Wisconsin Conservation Congress by clicking here.
This year, the Spring Hearings will be held on:
Monday, April 13, 2015
7:00 PM-9:00 PM
Hearings are held in every County

In addition to voting on the prepared questions, citizens can propose and vote on resolutions on issues they care about. These resolutions can be especially powerful as they show a united force against certain projects/proposals, educate the large number of attendees at the Conservation Congress, and advise the Natural Resources Board about these critical issues.
We are looking for volunteers in each county to propose resolutions urging:
- The Repeal the Bad River Watershed Destruction Act
- A Statewide Moratorium on Frac Sand Mining in Wisconsin
- Environmental Impact Reviews on Enbridge’s tar sands pipelines
- Maintain Wisconsin’s Mining Moratorium
Click on the resolution above for the wording of the resolutions (250 word max) and talking points. There is also an effort to introduce electronic voting that we support. Click here for the language.
Although the resolutions are non-binding, they are an important indicator of public opinion for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the media, and legislators to consider. You may introduce up to two resolutions. The resolutions will not be brought up until near the end of the hearing. While you can leave earlier if you need to, it is best if you can stick around until your resolution is brought up so you can speak to its merit.
If you’re able to introduce a resolution, fill out the form here or contact elizabeth.ward@sierraclub.org or (608) 256-0565 if you are willing to help out by introducing a resolution at this year's Spring Hearing in your county! There will be a call on Sunday, April 12 with information on how to introduce a resolution if you’re nervous or haven’t introduced one before.
