Since its creation, Earth Day has always helped to foster a sense of community within the environmental movement. And in just 2 days, we have the opportunity to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day together.
Normally that would mean gathering together in cities across the country to demand climate justice with a series of marches, rallies, art builds, actions, and trainings. This year, however, we will mobilize for climate justice online!
This Earth Day we are supporting our partners WA Youth Climate Strike who are organizing Earth Day Live, a three-day live stream from April 22 to 24 focused on demanding action on climate change, jobs, and justice.
The live stream will include training sessions, performances, and appearances to keep people engaged, informed, and inspired, with speakers including celebrities, politicians, scientists, and youth activists.
Day 1, Wednesday, April 22: Earth Day!
- WA Youth Climate Strike is hosting a series of one-hour trainings from 10 am - 4 pm.
- Sunrise Tacoma is hosting three livestreamed Power Hour webinars from 3-6 pm focusing on the ways that the Green New Deal would bring about environmental, social, and economic justice.
- U.S. Climate Strike is hosting Earth Day Live, a three-day livestream (April 22-24) that will include speakers, musical performances, and digital actions.
Day 2, Thursday, April 23: Stop the Money Pipeline Day of Action
- U.S. Climate Strike is hosting a Stop the Money Pipeline Day of Action as part of Earth Day Live. Led by the Stop the Money Pipeline Coalition, the goal is to reprogram the economy so that it works for people and the planet, not polluters.
- WA Youth Climate Strike is hosting three one-hour webinars from 10 am – 1 pm focused on divestment.
Day 3, Friday, April 24: Day of Political Action and Voter Engagement
- The famous young activist Greta Thunberg has asked Fridays for Future strikers around the world to use #ClimateStrikeOnline during the pandemic.
- U.S. Climate Strike is hosting a Day of Political Action and Voter Engagement.
- WA Youth Climate Strike is hosting three one-hour webinars from 10 am – 1 pm around political action.
COVID-19 has exposed the structural inequalities and injustice of our current system. Crises such as COVID-19 and the climate crisis open the door to see what is broken in our society as well as create opportunities for transformative change. We must ensure that any transformative changes lead us down the path towards a climate justice future for all.
All three days of Earth day Live action will center the stories and voices of leaders from communities of color, frontline communities, indigenous communities, workers, and more.
