Franque is Southern California seeded and sprouted and she grew up in a household where humor brought healing in the most unexpected ways. With all of that good sunshine on her skin and laughter in her bones, she's spent the last 15 years working as an educator and community organizer. Receiving formal education at Claremont Graduate University she earned a master's in mathematics and education and taught for schools in California and Guatemala. She comes to the Sierra Club as a lover of the west, its mountains, sunsets, and wildly varying and beautiful ecosystems. She brings a deep respect for the power of collaboration to create solutions. She is convinced that our humor and our stories are powerful agents for change. What a wonderful world we can build, if we can slow down, listen to our stories, and laugh together.
Franque has led numerous deeply impactful community organizing initiatives: She co-organized the People's Energy Movement of Utah, a coalition where she got to know the Sierra Club. In the light of the George Floyd tragedy, Franque founded Utahn Conversations, a communal project that conducted critical conversations on anti-Blackness to create change and build safety. We are super inspired by her work and excited to see how she will shape the Utah Chapter!
