Tom Howald retired from college teaching in Indiana and moved to Tennessee eight years ago. He immediately sought ways to engage with his new natural environment, especially its geology, as that was one of his teaching fields, but beyond geology as well.

His presentation will briefly touch on that journey, but will focus on two geological curiosities of our local area, namely the origin of the central basin/dome, and the surprising courses of the Harpeth--and to a lesser extent--Cumberland Rivers.
