On Thursday March 11, at 7:00 pm, the Middle Tennessee Group for Sierra Club will be conducting a Zoom program featuring Sara Plummer teaching us all about herbs.
Please join us in learning from Sara Plummer about the ins and outs of herb gardening. Sara took a circuitous route to herb gardening as she began her career serving in the Army Nurse Corps in Vietnam followed by spending time as a nurse working in open heart surgery in the ICU, working in public health via med-surge, and rounding up her years in the medical field with 38 years at Vanderbilt on the neurosurgery and renal transplant floors. After her contributions to the medical field, she took the thyme to take a master gardener class and became an integral part of the Herb Society of Nashville (HSN) in 1973. Sara later managed the HSN herb garden at Cheekwood for 6 years where she shared her knowledge of herbs with the visitors of Nashville’s most visited garden recognized for the quiet refuge it brings to the urban area-kind of a big dill! Sara is now retired but is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church where she organizes and manages an annual herb sale.
In this program, Sara will offer timely advice on herbs to plant this spring, different uses, propagation and folklore. Her presentation will cover varieties spanning the gamut from heirloom tomatoes and pepper plants to common herbs and pollinator plants. This presentation will be the bees knees and we are so excited to hear from Sara about her journey and understanding of herbs!
