MTG Program Nashville Proposed Transit Plan

March 2018

Erin Hafkenschiel, the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Sustainability, discussed the Nashville Mayor's proposed transit plan that will be offered as a referendum on the May 1, 2018. She outlined the facets of the plan including light rail, improved bus routes, the "tunnel" and other factors to encourage the use of public transit. The plan will reduce automobile traffic with resultant improvement of air quality, reduce commuting times in the metropolitan area, and make mass transit much more available to the communities.

Erin Hafkenschiel is the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Sustainability. The Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Sustainability is responsible for assisting the Mayor of Nashville in providing the infrastructure that is foundational to the city’s economic development while also addressing externalities from rapid growth, preserving our region’s natural resources, and improving our residents’ quality of life.  Erin joined the mayor's office from California Environmental Associates, a sustainability-consulting firm in San Francisco. There, she provided regulatory and policy analysis for clients in the freight-transportation and renewable-energy industries, and strategic planning for environmental foundations and non-profits.
