One in a series of Harvey Broome Group "saunters" led by Mac Post this year. We hiked a short distance on the Appalachian Trail between Indian Gap and Newfound Gap, always above 5,000 feet. Though we encountered a brief shower early in the hike, we enjoyed mid-60 temps while the "low country" below hit the 90's! This hike series is an outgrowth of Mac's prior series of hikes concentrating on "eco-zones" in the Smokies, but consists of shorter (and generally easier) hikes that go for short distances and allow time for immersion in the richer plant and animal diversity of the areas we encounter when hiking in east Tennessee.
