Columbia, SC — The Sierra Club South Carolina Chapter is proud to announce the appointment of Ms. Zakiya Mickle as the organization's new lobbyist in advance of the 2025 South Carolina State Legislative Session.
In a statement earlier today, Montravias King, Chapter Director, stated, "Zakiya Mickle is a rising star in South Carolina. Her skills and experience in lobbying and advocacy are a welcome addition to our team, and we are excited about the start of the 2025 legislative session with her in place as our new voice at the SC State House."
Ms. Mickle is a proud native of South Carolina and has years of experience in advocacy and organizing. She tirelessly advocates for marginalized communities and serves as Chief Lobbyist for the South Carolina Energy Justice Coalition. The coalition works closely with the Conservation Voters of South Carolina and over 70 other organizations on legislative priorities that advance Environmental Justice throughout the Palmetto.
Post-election, the Sierra Club South Carolina is moving forward with a renewed sense of urgency to protect the historic climate and energy gains that have advanced decarbonization and contributed to the creation of thousands of new clean energy jobs throughout the state. With Ms. Mickle in place as our lobbyist, we will work ardently to ensure an equitable SC energy transition that will build resilience and create jobs.
