A chemical spill from U.S. Steel has closed three beaches in Lake Michigan's Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Wastewater containing hexavalent chromium was discharged into a nearby waterway that feeds into the lake. People have been warned not to come into contact with the contaminated water.

DURHAM, NC—A plan to build a gas plant on the Duke University campus will not move forward for approval in May by the university’s board of trustees.

 

A special subcommittee of Duke University’s Campus Sustainability Committee, which had been charged with studying the feasibility of building a 21-megawatt combined heat and power plant on a 1-acre site on campus, today said it will not seek a board vote on the plant.

Leaked documents from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) outline the agency’s priorities for America’s public lands under the Trump Administration. The priorities include speeding leasing and permitting for dirty fuel development on public land, reforming the implementation of bedrock environmental laws to limit public input on projects and minimize accountability for companies that pollute our air and water or harm wildlife, and opening up new areas to development.

Washington, DC -- Today, one day after the Senate rejected Judge Neil Gorsuch’s nomination to the Supreme Court and Senate Republicans used the nuclear option to forever alter what was once called the “greatest deliberative body,” Donald Trump’s nominee to the Court has been confirmed.

 

For more than 200 years, the Senate have honored a 60 vote margin for Supreme Court nominees to be confirmed. Gorsuch only received 55.
