Washington, DC -- Early this morning, General Motors released their proposed plan to create a national zero emissions vehicle program. This proposal came just hours before the end of the comment period for the rollback of the clean car standards -- a rollback lobbied for in part by GM.

Washington, DC -- Today, the Sierra Club, along with environmental and consumer advocacy organizations and millions of Americans, submitted extensive comments on the Trump Administration’s proposed rollback of the clean car standards. The current car standards, agreed to under the Obama Administration, were part of a deal between automakers, NHTSA, EPA, and the California Air Resources Board, with buy-in from labor unions and environmental groups.

Today, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced the City’s intent to move forward with a Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program to reach the city’s goal of being powered by 100 percent renewable energy.

In spite of mounting concerns about threats to Indigenous communities and the global climate, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, and Crédit Agricole, along with 11 other banks, have doubled down on their support for tar sands pipelines, renewing a $1.41 billion line of credit to Enbridge, the company behind the controversial proposed Line 3 tar sands pipeline.

LAS VEGAS, NV - Today, the Sierra Club Nevada PAC announced a new mail campaign in support of Justin Jones, who is running for the position of Clark County Commissioner. The Sierra Club Nevada PAC will send out a total of three mailers highlighting Justin Jones and his strong progressive environmental record. The mailers also call out Jones’ opponent, Tisha Black, who has taken tens of thousands of dollars from developers who are hoping she’ll be their voice on the County Commission.

Ryan Zinke’s Department of the Interior announced the conditional approval of Hilcorp Alaska LLC’s “Liberty” offshore drilling plan in the Beaufort Sea. This facility would be the first oil and gas production facility in federal waters off Alaska.
