A federal judge ruled today that the Trump administration violated bedrock U.S. environmental laws when approving a federal permit for TransCanada’s proposed Keystone XL tar sands pipeline project. The judge blocked any construction on the pipeline and ordered the government to revise its environmental review.

Washington, DC -- Yesterday, the company behind the contentious Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP), a fracked gas pipeline that is projected to run from West Virginia to Virginia, filed its application to continue the project into North Carolina with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.  . The proposed Southgate extension would extend the pipeline into North Carolina. This move appears meant to thwart vocal opposition, as MVP likely anticipates decreased attention by submitting its application on a day when everyone is preoccupied with the election.

BOSTON--Last night, 52 Massachusetts Sierra Club endorsed candidates won their campaigns, increasing the number of climate champions to the State House and Senate, and reaffirming strong climate advocacy in our Federal delegation. Sierra Club members and supporters helped get out the vote for many of these candidates, canvassing and making calls in 10 competitive races. In total, close to 4,000 calls were made, resulting in the unseating of several incumbents with poor records on the environment.
