RICHMOND, Virginia – Today, the State Air Pollution Control Board voted to approve a limit on carbon pollution from dirty power plants across Virginia which will take effect on January 1, 2020. The standard will cut carbon pollution in Virginia 30% by 2030, and allow the state to link with the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). This is the first state-level carbon pollution limit under the current federal administration. However, the rule doesn’t include biomass which can produce as much or more carbon dioxide as electricity generated by coal-fired power.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Attorney General Barr released redacted versions of the Mueller report to Congress and to the public. Even with these redactions, the report reveals new details about Donald Trump’s actions and gives Congress the power to continue the investigation which includes subpoenaing Barr and bringing Special Counsel Robert Mueller in to testify. Mueller was unable to conclude that Trump did not obstruct justice.

Denver, CO-- Moments ago, the Colorado House unanimously passed the Firefighting Foams Control Act (HB 19-1279) to ban the sale of firefighting foams that contain harmful PFAS. It now goes to the Colorado Senate. The law would prohibit the sale of PFAS foam and requires disclosures when the chemicals are used for firefighting gear. The Sierra Club joined fire fighters and Fountain Valley Clean Water Coalition to sponsor and advocate for the legislation.

San Juan County has withdrawn its legal support for the Trump administration’s actions to shrink Bears Ears National Monument, which are currently being challenged in court by Tribal Nations and conservation groups, including the Sierra Club. The action follows a decision by the San Juan County Commission to reverse its official stance on changes to Bears Ears National Monumen
