Los Angeles, CA -- Today, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti delivers the State of the City, announcing a framework for a Green New Deal in Los Angeles. Garcetti is raising the ambition in the City’s sustainability plan, establishing a Climate Emergency Commission composed of frontline communities, and continuing leadership in phasing gas out of Los Angeles’ economy and transitioning to 100% clean energy.
Luis Amezcua, Senior Campaign Representative for the Sierra Club’s My Generation Campaign issued the following statement:
“Big day for Los Angeles and yet another example of how local leadership matters so much when it comes to cleaning up our air and building a healthier future for Angelenos. From committing to 100% clean energy to phasing out combustion buses in favor of a 100% electric fleet, Mayor Garcetti and the City have a track record of pushing for bold and achievable climate policies that benefit residents and businesses. Today’s framework takes things a step further and we’re excited to see the formal plan released on April 29th.
“Most importantly, we applaud the Mayor for putting communities most impacted by climate change, particularly low-income communities and communities of color, at the forefront in shaping the direction of any Green New Deal. This will ensure that as we continue investing in our local economy through clean energy resources, we are fostering health and economic benefits in communities that need these benefits the most.”
