WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Early this morning, Senate Republicans yet again blocked opening the debate on the For the People Act and two of its most broadly, bipartisan-supported elements -- fair redistricting and the DISCLOSE Act. The For the People Act is supported by 83 percent of US voters, and both the redistricting and Disclose Act components have broad bipartisan support in Congress. The For the People Act includes comprehensive, commonsense reforms to our democracy that ensure every American has the freedom to vote, regardless of their zip code or background. It also bans partisan gerrymandering, reduces government corruption, and curbs the influence of big money donors on elections and the electoral process.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency now says that Enbridge has had at least 27 spills of drilling fluid during the construction of the controversial Line 3 pipeline. Enbridge has polluted the water at 63% of their horizontal directional drilling (HDD) sites with drilling fluid containing numerous polluting chemicals, despite claiming that HDD is Enbridge the safest technology available.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, the Sierra Club welcomed the National Park Service’s announcement of nearly $17 million in grants to support urban parks and green space projects across the country as part of the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership program. The awards will support 19 projects across 13 states, including the construction of new parks, the rehabilitation of riverfronts, and the construction of downtown greenways and multi-use trails.

For example, the deal would leave three out of four lead pipes in place and only replace 4% of diesel school buses with clean electric vehicles.

WASHINGTON, DC -- On the heels of a blockbuster Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report detailing prospects for our world’s climate future, new details on a pending $3.5 trillion Senate budget resolution make clear that final passage of the package would be the most significant investment in tackling the climate crisis in U.S. history, putting the country on a path to meet President Biden’s climate action goals of 80% clean electricity and 50% economy-wide carbon emissions reductions by 2030, while delivering 40% of the climate investments to disadvantaged communities.
