Boston, MA — Voters in a statewide ballot in Maine last week rejected a proposed transmission line that would cut through Maine forests and prop up expensive, unjust, and ecologically destructive Canadian megadams to supply Massachusetts with electricity. The $1 billion New England Clean Energy Connect (NECEC) project, proposed by Avangrid, would be paid for by Massachusetts electricity ratepayers.

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - Today, more than 100 governments, fleet owners and vehicle manufacturers pledged to only sell zero-emission vehicles by 2040 globally, and by 2035 in leading markets. The target aims to ensure that one out of every three car sales will be zero emission by 2040 globally (and by 2035 in leading markets).

This afternoon, the County Council of Pinellas unanimously passed a resolution committing the county to transition to 100 percent clean, renewable energy for the entire community by 2050 and for county operations by 2040. Pinellas became the first county in Florida to make this commitment.

Atlanta, GA -- Southern Company, the nation’s third largest utility, has announced plans to close most of its coal burning units at Plant Scherer, Plant Bowen, and Plant Wansley in Georgia, in addition to its coal units at Plant Gaston and Plant Barry in Alabama. The utility announced during its quarterly earnings report on Thursday that the closures will occur by 2028.
