July 16–24 marks the annual return of Latino Conservation Week, sponsored by the Hispanic Access Foundation. The week-long event, which first launched in 2014, includes a slate of activities nationwide, from hiking and camping to community gathering, to support Latino/a communities establishing connections with nature and promote the permanent protection of land, water, and air. WASHINGTON, DC — Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told reporters in Bali on Saturday that the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC) is "not really a direct tool to address climate change.” This directly contradicts earlier commitments made by Yellen and the Biden administration to address the systemic risk that climate change poses to the economy.
Today, a coalition of wildlife advocates, hunters, and anglers challenged the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service over the Forest Service’s decision to abandon all 10 crucial wildlife standards that have guided wildlife habitat management of the Helena National Forest for 30 years. In the forest plan revision process, the agencies failed to conduct legally required analysis of the effects this decision would have on threatened grizzly bears, Canada lynx, and big game species including elk. The abandonment of these standards significantly weakens protections for wildlife including preservation of important hiding cover, and allows increases in road density in wildlife habitat – a primary factor in grizzly bear mortality.
Today, Sierra Club, along with HealthyGulf, filed a lawsuit against the Army Corps of Engineers for issuing a Clean Water Act section 404 “dredge and fill” permit for the Driftwood LNG fracked gas export terminal proposed for construction in Calcasieu Parish in Southwest Louisiana.

The bill aims to clean up the shipping industry, protect the health of port communities, address environmental injustice, and provide solutions to the climate crisis. If ocean shipping were a country, it would be the sixth largest producer of climate pollution globally.
