Today, U.S. Representative Teresa Leger Fernandez and Sen. Ben Ray Lujan introduced the Chaco Cultural Heritage Area Protection Act, a move recognized by the Greater Chaco Coalition as a step in the right direction. Though the Coalition supports this legislation, more needs to be done to address the cumulative impact of extractive industries on the Greater Chaco Landscape and its communities.

Despite clear evidence that liquified methane gas (LNG) exports are harmful to domestic energy consumers and are disastrous for frontline communities and the climate, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved Commonwealth LNG export terminal, the first such certification in 2.5 years.

Today, on Solutions Day at COP27, the United States announced it is joining a global memorandum of understanding (MOU) calling for 100 percent new zero-emission truck and bus sales by 2040, with an interim goal of 30 percent of new sales by 2030.

The discussion will focus on what has happened at COP27 so far, what the expectations are for the outcomes at the end of this week, and what the US and other major emitters need to do to do their part to tackle the climate crisis.

Today, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) released an Instruction Memorandum (IM) to all field staff, effective immediately, which will inventory and assess habitat connectivity to identify how to manage public lands and best support priority species. This assessment would then be used to inform land use plans and revisions on public lands that the BLM manages.

DALLAS, TX — Today, Sierra Club filed a formal notice of intent to sue the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for failing to impose a Federal Implementation Plan to eliminate harmful levels of sulfur dioxide pollution from Luminant’s Martin Lake coal-fired power plant.
