Conservation groups and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management have finalized a legal agreement that will prevent new oil and gas leasing across 2.2 million acres of southwestern Colorado until the agency supplements its environmental analysis and releases an amended plan for lands in the area.

Boston — Today, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker signed into law ‘An Act driving clean energy and offshore wind.’ The law will expand clean energy development, transportation electrification, and building decarbonization measures to create good-paying jobs and help reach legally binding statewide emissions reduction targets of 50% by 2030.

Boston, MA -  Last night, Governor Baker signed a transportation bond bill with over $11 billion in funding for a wide range of clean transportation projects, including making streets safer for biking and walking, investing in fare-free bus pilot programs, electrifying buses and commuter rail, cleaning up pollution from heavy-duty vehicles, building out electric vehicle charging infrastructure, promoting e-bikes as a replacement for car trips through rebates, and repair our bridges and roads.

The next few weeks could be decisive for the future of the Salton Sea, California’s largest lake. The Army Corps of Engineers is analyzing plans that will shape the next ten years of projects designed to avert the environmental catastrophe at the Sea. At the same time, negotiations among Western states on the dwindling water supply from the Colorado River could severely affect replenishment to the Salton Sea region from its largest historical source of water. The longstanding environmental, economic, and public health problems affecting the Salton Sea because of its dropping water levels are accelerating due to a combination of climate change, changing water use patterns, decades-long delays to projects critical for restoring the Sea, and underinvestment in local infrastructure, harming the communities and wildlife that call the area home.
