Today Puget Sound Energy (PSE) announced that they would be selling their stake in Colstrip Unit 4 to Montana-based NorthWestern Energy, which intends to run the plant into the 2040s.

The ads include a radio ad and billboard running in Luria’s district as well as online ads in McEachin’s and Spanberger’s district.

Indianapolis Power & Light (IPL) today released its plan for how the utility will generate electricity for its more than 470,000 customers over the next two decades with a proposal to retire two units at the Petersburg Super Polluter coal plant, but will keep burning coal until 2042 at the two remaining units.

Today the utility owners of the Colstrip coal plant announced that they signed a new contract for coal from the nearby Rosebud Mine through 2025. While the owners have yet to disclose the price they’re now paying for coal, it’s likely to be higher than the previous contract that expires at the end of this month, further eroding the economic viability of the aging plant.

The Huffington Post reported new evidence today that the coal industry knew about the long-term, global impacts of its carbon pollution decades ago, and that the industry has proactively scuttled efforts by elected officials, public health groups, and scientists to address the climate crisis despite its awareness of the dangers.

Avista Utilities would commit at least $3 million to assist in economic transition for the community of Colstrip and would no longer support investments that would extend the life of the plant past the end of 2025, under the terms of a proposed settlement in the company’s rate case before the Washington State Utilities and Transportation Commission.

ANNAPOLIS, MD. -  Today, the Sierra Club, joined by the Maryland League of Conservation Voters, Interfaith Power & Light and Delegate Kumar Barve, released a bipartisan poll showing Marylanders overwhelmingly want to move beyond coal and into a clean energy future. The poll, conducted by Ferguson Research and Hart Research Associates, found that 70% of Marylanders want to transition the state off dirty coal and move to clean energy sources like wind and solar.

Last night, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed House Bills 4069, 4465, and Senate Bill 47 which eliminate property tax increases for residential, commercial, and industrial customers who install rooftop solar, moving Michigan one step closer to dismantling a key disincentive for distributed solar. The Michigan House and Senate approved these bills across bipartisan lines in near-unanimous votes.
