Sierra Club and Clean Wisconsin filed an appeal today with the Wisconsin Court of Appeals to challenge the decision made by Dane County Circuit Court, rejecting their arguments that the Wisconsin Public Service Commission (PSC) failed to adequately consider environmental impacts for the $700 million Nemadji Trail Energy Center (NTEC) gas plant proposed by Dairyland Power, Minnesota Power, and Basin Electric in Superior, Wisconsin.

Today, the Michigan Public Service Commission approved a settlement in Consumers Energy’s Integrated Resource Plan that secures 2025 as the retirement date for Consumers Energy's J.H Campbell coal plant, 15 years earlier than previously planned. The settlement helps ensure that Consumers Energy will replace most of that capacity with clean energy and battery storage, instead of with fossil fuels as previously proposed. $30 million in shareholder funds (not ratepayer funds) will also be allocated to low-income bill assistance by Consumers as a result of this settlement.

Alliant has made clear that both near term and long term clean energy commitments remain unchanged.

Denver, Colorado — Today, the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) concluded its deliberations for Xcel Energy's electric resource plan, bringing Phase 1 of the planning process close to an end, with a written decision likely coming next month. Sierra Club and Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) signed on to the updated settlement that the PUC voted to approve with slight modifications.

MOBILE, AL - Last week, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) granted a petition submitted by Sierra Club, GASP, and the Mobile Environmental Justice Action Coalition (MEJAC) that asked the agency to step in to enforce pollution controls at Plant Barry near Mobile, AL.

Washington, DC — Today, the Sierra Club and 28 partners personally delivered over 72,000 public comments, including 11,686 comments collected by the Sierra Club, urging the Environmental Protection Agency to protect public health and address dangerous interstate ozone pollution by adopting the strongest possible version of the agency’s proposed Good Neighbor Plan for the 2015 Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS).
