WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the Department of Energy announced $2.8 billion in federal funding to spur electric vehicle battery manufacturing in the U.S. and expand the production of essential clean manufactured goods. The investments will go to 20 manufacturing and processing companies in 12 states, including Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Tennessee, and Washington.

Phoenix, AZ – In a new version of Sierra Club’s groundbreaking report, the Dirty Truth About Climate Pledges, Arizona utilities Salt River Project (SRP), Tucson Electric Power (TEP), and Arizona Public Service (APS) earned poor grades for the way the utilities have delayed the transition to clean energy from coal and gas that poisons the air, threatening the public health of communities, and exacerbating the climate crisis.

MEMPHIS, TN. -- Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) is expected to make an imminent decision on the best supply option to meet its customers’ electric needs. Today marks the end of a 30 day public comment period during which Sierra Club, the Southern Environmental Law Center, other organizations, and individual residents have spoken out against a Long Term Partnership with current energy provider Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). MLGW management has previously recommended the utility sign the TVA contract.

The U.S. Department of Energy has agreed to review energy efficiency standards for 20 categories of consumer and commercial appliances and equipment, as part of a settlement approved today in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Updating the 20 overdue standards would mean huge savings for U.S. consumers and businesses, approximately $650 billion in cumulative utility bill savings through 2050. This action will also prevent between 970 and over 1800 million metric tons of carbon emissions over the same period according to an analysis by the Appliance Standards Awareness Project.
