Washington, DC – This week, Donald Trump announced the nomination of Matt Gaetz to serve as United States Attorney General.
In response to the nomination, Sierra Club Legislative Director Melinda Pierce released the following statement:
“Matt Gaetz’s pro-polluter record makes him a dangerous pick to serve the American people as Attorney General. He has consistently voted against efforts to protect clean air and clean water, and the very first piece of legislation he introduced upon his arrival in Congress was to abolish the Environmental Protection Agency. The primary qualification for the head of the United States Department of Justice is an abiding respect for, and understanding of, the rule of law. Matt Gaetz has demonstrated neither. The Senate should swiftly reject his nomination.”
