Reno, NV – Today, the Sierra Club announced its endorsement of Steven Horsford for the US House of Representatives for Nevada’s Fourth Congressional District in the 2024 election.
"We are pleased to announce today that the Sierra Club officially endorses Representative Steven Horsford for re-election," said Bari Levinson, Nevada Political Committee Co-Chair. "We are confident that he will continue to work to protect Nevada’s public lands and its people, while continuing to fight climate change.”
Our climate and environment are in crisis. It is more important than ever to elect champions like Steven Horsford who will prioritize our communities and our future. He was a strong proponent of the Inflation Reduction Act which included $15.7 million to Nevada for investment in urban forests to provide shelter, shade, and relief from brutal heat, and he also plans to support future investments in mitigating heat island effects. He is also a strong proponent of renewable energy projects, helping to fight climate change and provide good paying jobs.
Representative Horsford helped secure $3 billion for high speed passenger rail from Las Vegas to Southern California. This project will not only provide cleaner air and safer transportation, but will create numerous well-paying jobs.
In coordination with Representatives Lee and Titus, Representative Horsford introduced and passed legislation to allow the US Air Force to expand the Nevada Test and Training Range by a few acres, in exchange for permanent protection of 736,000 acres within the Nevada Wildlife Refuge.
"We are deeply grateful to Representative Horsford for his commitment to environmental justice, including urban forestry and clean transportation for southern Nevadans,” said Tracy Puckett, Nevada Political Committee Co-Chair.
Along with the endorsement, the Sierra Club will lend its volunteer strength to Representative Horsford’s campaign.
"We pledge to do all we can to help ensure Representative Horsford is re-elected," said Teresa Bell, member of the Political Committee. "Sierra Club volunteers will contact voters on his behalf and we will speak to the public as often as possible about his exemplary environmental record. We look forward to a victory for Steven Horsford on election night and to his continued fight for the environment as the US House Representative for Nevada’s Fourth District".
