Reno, NV – Today the Sierra Club announced its endorsement of Congresswoman Dina Titus for the US House of Representatives for Nevada’s First Congressional District in the 2024 election.
"We are pleased to announce today that the Sierra Club officially endorses Congresswoman Titus for re-election," said Bari Levinson, Nevada Political Committee Co-Chair. "We are confident that she will continue to work to protect Nevada’s public lands, build our clean energy economy, and expand access to outdoor recreation opportunities in the Battle Born State.”
Our climate and environment are in crisis. It is more important than ever to elect champions like Congresswoman Titus to continue prioritizing our communities and our future. She supported and helped shepherd the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the largest investment in clean energy and climate action in U.S. history, into law. The IRA has directed over $3.3 billion dollars of public funds and led to over $12 billion in private investments to make Nevada a leader in the clean energy economy. The bill also contains $4.5 billion for drought mitigation efforts which build upon the Congresswoman’s work to conserve water and protect water access in the Colorado River basin.
Congresswoman Titus is instrumental in preserving our public lands and supporting our $39 billion outdoor recreation economy which employs over 49,000 Nevadans. This past year she introduced legislation and led the effort to safeguard over 506,000 acres of biologically diverse and culturally significant lands by establishing the Avi Kwa Ame National Monument. She also led pushes to designate Tule Springs, Basin and Range, and Gold Butte as National Monuments.
As a senior member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, she helped secure $3 billion for the nation's first true high speed rail service, Brightline West, from Las Vegas to Southern California. Brightline West will lower air pollution by taking cars off I-15, reducing emissions by 400,000 tons of CO2 per year while creating thousands of good-paying union jobs.
"We are deeply grateful for her commitment to clean air and safe transportation for southern Nevadans,” said Tracy Puckett, Nevada Political Committee Co-Chair. "Dina is a true environmental advocate and her work on the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill and the IRA has come back to help everyday Nevadans while investing in our clean energy economy.”
Along with the endorsement, the Sierra Club will lend its volunteer strength to Congresswoman Titus’s campaign.
"We pledge to do all we can to help ensure Dina is re-elected," said Teresa Bell, Volunteer Coordinator for Toiyabe Chapter. "Sierra Club volunteers will contact voters on her behalf to highlight her exemplary record on the environment. We look forward to her victory on election night and to her continued fight for the environment as the Representative for Nevada’s First Congressional District".
