Environmental Activists Rally at Miami French Consulate in Support of COP21
Monday, as presidents and prime ministers from 150 countries arrived in Paris for the opening session of the UN climate summit, 20 environmental activists banded together in solidarity with the 785,000+ people rallying at 2300+ such events in 175+ countries.
Oceanic or coastal effects caused by climate change, including acceleration of sea-level rise, lead the Sierra Club Miami Group to describe Miami as "climate change ground zero". The Environmental Protection Agency states, “Sea level is rising more rapidly along the U.S. coast than worldwide. Studies by EPA and others have estimated that along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts, a one foot (30 cm) rise in sea level is likely by 2050. In the next century, a two foot rise is most likely, but a four foot rise is possible; and sea level will probably continue to rise for several centuries, even if global temperatures were to stop rising a few decades hence[;]”.
