Club Co-Hosts "Stop the Frack Attack" Summit in Denver

Every two years, Sierra Club ally EARTHWORKS hosts a national anti-fracking summit. The two organizations are partners in the Stop the Frack Attack (SFTA) network. This year's summit was held in Denver earlier this month.

The Club has supported the STFA network as a member of its steering committee and attended the STFA national summit 2015 with staff, volunteer leaders, and over 100 scholarship-sponsored community members, including 46 who attended on full travel scholarships made possible by the Sierra Club.

The summit took place the first Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of October. With the support of 350 Colorado, the Club helped to organize a march through downtown Denver immediately following the summit.

On October 5, over 300 activists marched from a rally at the Colorado State Capitol to EPA's regional headquarters and oil giant Halliburton's Denver office, culminating in an action at the governor’s mansion, where a 20-foot-tall fracking rig was erected on Governor John Hickenlooper's front lawn while a loudspeaker spoke to the stories of Coloradans adversely affected by fracking in the state. Above, that's Sierra Club volunteer John Fenton in front of the governor's mansion!

A number of anti-fracking ativists, or fracktivists, held actions at Denver's Saddle Butte pipeline and the Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission.
