Air Quality Monitoring

Have you ever wondered whether the air you breathe is really clean? Or are you concerned that a big cloud of dust or smoke is affecting your air today.

The Lehigh Valley Sierra Club is running a project to monitor air quality in the Lehigh Valley.

There is an air quality monitoring site in Zionsville, in the southernmost part of Lehigh County.

In another project, there will be four particulate monitors installed, two of which are currently operating monitors. In the image below circled in red are the two Sierra Club monitors. Two of the proposed sites are within a short distance of the truck traffic and two of them are more distant,

Particulate matter at or above 2.5 microns (PM 2.5) is dangerous to human health. With the current Covid-19 restrictions, air quality is better now than it has been in years. This data now provides a baseline for area air quality for comparison to times with normal economic activities.
Particulate Monitor Data Summary

Using the link below, you can view the data in real time. You can zoom out and view similar monitors around the country and the world. The color coded markers flag the hazard level of the particulates monitored.

  • LV Sierra Club #1 - in Orefield, it is reading 29 in the image below (located near Fogelsville).
  • LV Sierra Club #2 - in Powder Valley, it is reading 22 in the image below and is the southernmost reading.
  • LV Sierra Club #3 - in Bethlehem, it is reading 30 in the image below and is very close to rt 378.
