Sierra Club proudly endorses current Mayor of Milwaukie, Mark Gamba for Oregon’s House of Representative District 41 seat. The policies, programs and outcomes that have occurred under his mayoral leadership should inspire and create excitement about the possibilities that arise should Mark be elected to Oregon’s House of Representatives. Examples include creating one of the most aggressive climate action plans (CAP) in the state. This was followed by being the first city in Oregon to adopt a Climate Emergency Resolution to quicken the timeline to meet the CAP’s goals and for the city to be carbon neutral by 2045. This CAP is being used in other cities as a template. Today Milwaukie uses LED street lights, the second city in Oregon to do so. Progress has been made in building bike and pedestrian infrastructure. When completed Milwaukie will be completely ADA-compliant; it is on schedule to be the first city in Oregon to hold this distinction.
Mark supports universal healthcare, living wages and increasing the supply of affordable housing. He led Milwaukie’s effort to attract development of 400 new units of affordable housing. Mark sees the impact systemic racism has on Oregonians and has led efforts to level the playing field to better create opportunities for everyone.
