By endorsing Christina Stephenson for Oregon Labor Commissioner, the Oregon Sierra Club underscores its strong commitment to labor rights and the policies, goals, and values she espouses. She has bipartisan support from firefighters, nurses, teachers, electrical and iron workers, laborers, carpenters—the overwhelming backing of the Oregon labor movement—and countless businesses. “She’s politically savvy and strong on workers’ and civil rights.”
As Labor Commissioner, Christina will work for an Oregon where businesses can thrive and workers are respected: workers are the lifeblood driving Oregon’s economy. She centers the protection of workers rights and equity for all Oregonians.
As a civil rights attorney, Christina was instrumental in shaping the policies for Fair Scheduling; Enforcement of Health and Safety Laws; and Expanded Workplace Fairness Rights, to help level the economic justice playing field for workers and businesses. Christina worked tirelessly to help pass Oregon’s Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance legislation in 2019, the nation’s most progressive. She is committed to ensuring that workers can use this leave without employer retaliation.
Christina will invest in technical assistance to help businesses stay compliant, and in apprenticeships to develop worker skills and to expand health services in rural areas. She continues to stand up for women’s workplace pay equity, and full access to reproductive healthcare. She urges bold action to combat climate change and to transition to a climate-resilient economy.
Christina states, “Together we can build an agency that will be accessible, responsive, and fair in enforcing the laws. I am excited to apply the best practices from across the nation to ensuring we have a strong and just economy here in Oregon.” For information on how you can support her campaign, visit her website at ChristinaStephenson.com.
