Can You Help Steer the Oregon Chapter of the Sierra Club?

The Oregon chapter will be electing 4 members to the Oregon Chapter Executive Committee (ExCom) this fall to 2-year terms, running from January 2025 to January 2027.

Your Voice is Important!
ExCom leads the chapter and is responsible for supporting Groups and Committees and setting priorities for the Sierra Club in Oregon. The ExCom is seeking candidates with the following traits:

  • Demonstrated contributions to a team or committee and commitment to working in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to build consensus amongst a variety of viewpoints and input
  • Understanding of Sierra Club’s commitment to anti-racism and the interconnectedness of environmental justice issues
  • Ability to create and operate in service of a bigger picture vision, and make decisions that are in the best interest of the Oregon Chapter and Sierra Club
  • Ability to meet regularly (monthly) and commit to a 2-year term, and contribute at least 12 hours per month. Most meetings are held via Zoom.

Complete this online questionnaire, which includes a Candidate Interest Statement, by 5 p.m. on June 30. After submission of questionnaires, the Nominating Committee will evaluate candidates and recommend up to six candidates for the four ExCom seats.

Petition Process Candidates
The Nominating Committee will notify all applicants of their status by August 1. Applicants not recommended for advancement may also pursue nomination by the petition of at least 187 Oregon Sierra Club members, and consent to standing for election. Refer to Chapter & Group Standing Rule 4.3 for more information.

Electronic Voting
Electronic voting will be available to all members, but members who have opted out of email will receive paper ballots by mail.

2024 Oregon Chapter Election Calendar

June 2 — Notice of election emailed and posted; nominations open
June 30 — Candidate questionnaires due by 5 p.m.
Aug. 1 — Nominating Committee announces recommendations
Aug. 16 — Petitions of additional candidates due by 5 p.m.
Sept. 25 — Production of eligible voter list
Oct. 1 — Ballots distributed to members
Oct. 31 — Voting closes
Nov. 5 — The Election Committee will count ballots at 5:30 p.m.
