Seeking volunteers with communications and website skills! We have some unique, focused volunteer opportunities for volunteers who want to help the Chapter with its ongoing communications and website.

Our current Communications Coordinator (Mariah Shriner) is employed in a non-renewable position which expires on February 28, 2023. The National HR Department is currently dealing with a surge in hiring so they are quite busy. We are currently prioritizing the hiring and onboarding of a Chapter Director. Thus, we are expecting a gap between the time Mariah leaves and when we will have a new staffer on board to replace her. We are planning to deal with this gap in a variety of ways:
- Identify those areas of work that we can be put on hold until we get new staff
- Identify the most critical Comms work which we cannot do without and narrowly define those tasks so that it would be possible for volunteers to take them on.
- Seek support from National Staff for any remaining gaps.
We’re especially interested in finding volunteers to help with:
- Coordinating and sending out the monthly Chapter Newsletters
- Sending out two statewide Action Alerts each month
- Updating the Chapter Website
We are looking for volunteers that have the skills, time, and interest in this work. Ideally we could recruit a small team of volunteers with communications and IT skills who would like to learn the Sierra Club’s software systems needed to do this work. You do not need to have extensive knowledge of digital platforms; there are detailed, helpful trainings available from National for each of the platforms used for SierraClub communications, as well as National support staff. The ability to work with other volunteers is critical. The skills you learn doing this work will help you be a more effective volunteer as well as help the Chapter with its work!
