About Us

The Cimarron Group is noted for our very active and strong outings group, whose activities and programs are also listed the website. Trips are organized at every level of interest from local gastronomic events to day trips and multi-day hikes around the State and region, to international destinations in the Caribbean and Canada. All outings are organized by trained and experienced leaders and are open to non-members. Indeed, the outings program is a key part of our membership development strategy and is commonly responsible for the first interactions with the Club by nonmembers. Outings also provide opportunities to educate participants about threats to the natural places visited.

Cimarron Group has been actively involved with several conservation issues over the years. Recently, we have sponsored a series of “re-skilling” workshops to teach today’s citizens some of the lessons first learned by our ancestors and that may again become important in the future as society transitions to a more sustainable model. Topics have included canning and food preservation, fruit tree pruning, gardening, and bicycle maintenance. Cimarron Group has been actively involved in local issues including adoption by the City Council of an urban agriculture ordinance, update of the Oklahoma City comprehensive plan, and has participated in local election campaigns for Mayor, City Council and the State Legislature. We are especially proud of our partnerships with like-minded organizations in the Oklahoma City area, such as SixTwelveTransition OKC and the Oklahoma City Urban Ag Coalition, as well as our support of the local food movement over the past several years.
