The Sierra Club believes that proper management of water is essential to the survival and flourishing of present and future generations. We know that this means protecting the water sources for our own area in addition to being careful stewards of the water that flows to our neighbors downstream.
This involves:
- Reducing the flow of harmful substances off of our land into our rivers, streams, and lakes
- Avoiding the concentrated release of pollutants into our water from industrial or other sources
- Using our water supply wisely through conservation and increased efficiency
We work with local governments and institutions to adopt policies that promote these goals, such as stream buffers and stormwater management rules. We also collaborate with Sierra Club staff and members throughout North Carolina to push for beneficial policies at the state level, including protections against fracking and effective rules to manage pollution in Jordan Lake.
