The Sierra Club is committed to protecting our planet by moving us toward smarter energy choices. In North Carolina, that means we need:
- More solar
- More wind (especially offshore wind)
- More efficient buildings
- Phaseout of coal plants and safe handling of coal ash
- No fracking or offshore drilling
Locally, we work toward these goals by:
- Joining with Sierra Club members across the state and the staff of the club's North Carolina chapter to convince the state legislature to adopt smart energy policies (see a message from the chair of the NC Sierra Club about our 2015 priorities)
- Supporting programs that help local residents make good energy choices
- Pushing local governments to encourage better energy choices within their own jurisdictions
- Educating our members and other people in our four-county area about the impacts of our energy choices and policies, along with opportunities to make a difference
