Protecting South Mountain Reservation

In 2020, Essex County announced plans to build a new 500 seat amphitheater at the Turtle Back Zoo.

The plans called for removal of over 100 mature trees and using the amphitheater not only for educational shows for school children, but as an entertainment venue for evening performances. In conjunction with Our Green West Orange, we were able to document that the amphitheater would be built on protected wetlands, and the County appears to have withdrawn the project from active development.
