Sierra Club Tahoe Area Group (TAG) participated in a number of events in April and May including the Washoe Colony Earth Day on May 4 in Carson City, NV.
We asked some attendees to participate in guessing how long it took for various single use plastic items to deteriorate. We also asked some attendees to guess what animal the horns came from. We loved that many children guessed they were from reindeer. Others guessed that they were from deer. It turns out that the horns were naturally shed by an elk. We were surprised that many of the adults guessed this correctly but perhaps it is not surprising since many participants were indigenous people who are closely connected to nature and the environment.
The event was hosted by the Washoe Tribe Environmental Protection Department. It was a wonderful opportunity to publicize the work of the Sierra Club, as well as engage with the community and other participating conservation organizations. Thank you to those who visited us at any of the Earth Day events!
